Flawless :: TAYO (MOB RECORDS); JODI (WAY OUT WEST) + Holy Cooper, Chris Jasper, L-vis1990, Creepy D

With a cocky swagger and a pissed sway, myself and Eliot stood outside the concorde 2 waiting for the door staff to finish their practically indecent search. Maybe it was because of who we are, maybe the way we looked, probably because we could hardly stand up. Thats right, my best friend captain Kronenburg had really taken his toll, and it was still only 11 o’clock!

Still, after exchanging pleasentaries with the bouncers and promoters we stepped into a new fresh bar area. It still looked the same, but something was noticeably different. Mainly the 4K soundsystem now supplying the beats to the masses, via the delectable Holly Cooper. I dont think the bar has ever sounded quite so good. The PA’s full, phat, punchy range was shown off to full effect with Ms. Cooper dropping ‘That track’ by Thomas Anderson. A good start.

The ‘C2′ is split into two rooms by two double swing doors. And there’s always a shock from the brash nature in which you transverse styles of music, by literally stepping forwards a couple of feet from one room to the other. But for the first time I didnt even notice the music…Why? Because I was too busy shielding my eyes from the fucking great lazer that was casting a million different colours into my eyes!

Statikedge warmed the crowd up nicely, playing a balenced breaks set and dropping the seminal track ‘Coming up for air’ off Rennie Pilgrems – Pilgrimage album. It had been a long time since I’d heard it played in a club and the dreamy synth hook and spacey drones sounded pretty damn spectacular. In fact the majority of his set was focusing on the spacey. Evil nine’s remix of UNKLE’s Regin featured early doors, along with the Plumps mix of Lee Coombs ‘Shiver,’ Both of which sounded equally fresh.

So by now myself and Eliot were back on top form. Taking on a quick gin and admiring the lazer’s dreamy colours and the visual work of Ben – Twisted Spektra, whose handy camera work, inteligent edits and capsulating animations were being shown on multi-screens across the stage and club.

And before we even realised, Tayo had taken to the stage and started his journey into the dub breakbeat that has recently become his trademark style. Early doors ‘T’ delivered one of the biggest tunes of the moment. Know only to me as ‘The Toastie tune.’ He has been giving it a real rinsing on his radio show, and rightly so. Deep ragga influenced vibes imeadiatly anouncing to the crowd that Tayo was in the house and in Brighton on bussiness.

An uplifting set was played, and it didnt so much as take you on a journey, it picked you up, threw you and kicked you on a journey; destination UNKNOWN. Along the way the were moments of arm waving and shape throwing to the inevitable tearout tracks. The only way I can describe it is Deep. Deep sounds and bassline pressure. ‘Shorty the pimp’ was played, a cdr track by Tayo which has been floating around ‘The usual suspects’ for a while and getting massive play’s from all of them. And which I am led to believe, is getting an iminent release on the Italian label Mantra, and comes with a positively stunning Madox remix on the B.

Quote of the night comes from Tayo, when asked about playing the remix of Damien ‘Jnr. Gong’ Marley’s – Welcome To Jamrock (Which hasn’t left his set for the last four months and I couldn’t wait to hear devestating the concorde dancefloor)

“Ive left in the CD player in my car!” – Tayo

Well that must a been a pretty intence journey down from Landan. *London (I have a mockney accent!)

My only critique would be that there was no acid. Sometimes you just need a touch in those really dark moments…

Still…after that I understand some guy with a girls name played some house stuff or something??? I wasnt really that bothered. Instead I watched my mate wap his slong out in chip shop and ask the guy behind the counter if he could have some chips with it. Anyway, I’d seen what i wanted to see, and heard what I’d wanted to hear – The Dread at the controls, ripping up wax.

Next Flawless is @ the volks…So go along and check it out.
