Lo Fidelity All Stars
Conspiracy – Jamie Black – JFB
“Before the Blackout”
Will and his merry-pranksters put on a pre-S*P*A*M launch party for reasons unbeknownst to me…a birthday party…whoever thunk it? I got a half-threatening phone call from Mr Black at 10pm. “Be there at midnight, missy, or the kittens get it!” It didn’t take long for me to get the troops dressed, laced and armed with Red Bull. Requests for sudden consumption of ice-cold Polish vodka set the tone for the night: in a word, degenerative. On that note, I’ll be brief.
We had hassles from the very beginning. I should have seen this as an omen. The security guy guarding the entrance to the stairwell wouldn’t let KW in because he was wearing a football shirt. “What, do you a policy against Adidas?” he asked cheekily. KW was the furthest thing from a hooligan. What gives? We were directed to a sign on the front door. KW rolled his eyes and reluctantly zipped up a hoodie. He was a bit miffed.
Things had definitely kicked off upstairs. Friends I hadn’t seen since my US sojourn appeared everywhere. It was nice to see so many faces. I hadn’t been out in ages. Depleting my life savings just to see my family in the States hardly seems worth being this broke.
A nice-sized crowd and a dance floor to fill. It was a shame I missed Conspiracy’s set – I’m told it was his debut ! It’s also a shame I missed so much of the music. As you can tell from the photographic evidence, my evening started out relatively sober, but after not-too-long and not-too-many drinks, the evening became a blur. Jamie’s set rocked. He played out some of his own tracks, which are coming along so much it hurts.
At some point, KW got the breakdancing demo on and I stupidly tried a lame move and fucked up my thumb. Took more pics (blurry), jumped up on stage, got into a fight with my boyfriend, someone tried to sell me drugs but I told them I didn’t want any. Took some more pictures, stole someone’s beer. Then we had a security clampdown and got chucked out. I did get a very interesting tour of the Pressure Point’s *secret* stairwell, which I highly recommend.
I’ve done so much damage that I will be sipping tea and listening to Barry Manilow and resting my soul until the end of the month…Slackers Convention at the Concorde on the 18th February…and it’s my birthday ! Expect desert islands, beer cans, music mash-up, and only the best of manners from yours truly.
