Bounce is the word that best sums up this evening.. Utah Jazz on the wheels of steel playing seriously chilled melodic, vocal drum and bass beats. To the Ez Rollers flying off the radar, laying down dark, up front tunes, not their usual steeze but to say they got the crowd pumping would be an understatement.
The Flawless guys, having built up a solid reputation over the past few years. This evening was a much anticipated shin dig to christen the residency at the Concorde 2. Like Chasey Lane – it went down well.
For a what is essentially a drum and bass night, with the Rollers headlining, the clientele was a diverse and refreshing mix to the usual crowd of pubescent glow stick waving gurners that grace nights like Devotion – now don’t get me wrong, I love a good stomp at nights like that but Flawless attracted an older, sophisticated crowd that knew how to dress, throw some shapes and converse at the bar with style and panache. And this was a vibe that seriously suited the Concorde.. It’s a smart club, cool, bright bar and the main room is a venue to the worship of the band or Dj’s that you have gone along to show your love. There was duel screen visuals and intelligent lighting, the lasers in the club turned the dance floor into a piece of art, patterns and shadows and stylish clubbers.
Regret to admit that I missed the first set, however the Utah Jazz were laying down the chilled ambient beats to grove too when I arrived. Very pimp styles Mc’s bouncing to the beats, encouraging the crowd to envelope the bass line in sync. It worked – the atmosphere was cool, everyone was loving it and the honey vocal tunes kept coming.
The place was not packed, but sometimes this is a blessing.. room to manoeuvre, not lose friends and loved ones, shape throwing with long arms abruptly stops being an issue and the crowd is cool and the feel was perfect. Flawless clashing with Legends at another venue could have complimented to this – the dnb kids are very loyal.
Room 2 or the bar, held host to the Flawless resident Dj’s slamming some sweet as fuck electro house and breaks. The people looked bling, the tunes were crisp and the sound system appearing to be louder than the main room, these boys had it going off. Stylish dancing, the beautiful people of Brighton all seemed to be en mass around their decks. A naughty sexy vibe, deep grooving tunes I think the boys popped their C2 residency cherry with more style vogue.
Ez Rollers set was riding dark, have been a fan for years and rather than delivering the movie track tunes that the wider demographic would know and love, Jay and Alex gave it to us deep, dark and dirty. Well bumped music. Up front tunes. Deep rolling beats. It was all rather sordid by the decks where I dedicatedly ping ponged off the other crazy dancers surrounding me. Mc Ninety kept the crowd hyped and real, a talented and cunning linguist of the drum and bass arena he is the man to make you demand a rewind. Filthy sounds to make your nose wrinkle wound their set up, kissing the evening good bye with a session of scratching and dipping in some dirty ass bass lines.
Absolutely Flawless.
