The people I go out with and socialise with in the clubs and even people I meet for the first time are all on class a drugs, mainly ecstasy, and they are the nicest most down to earth gentle people I know. I just don't understand why the police feel the need to give this group of people such a hard time and try to deter them from going out and having a fun night which very very rarely attracts any trouble.

wicked article, really informative. Was down at the zap on that night to collect something I'd left there previously- there was an extremely un-nerving, imposing atmosphere outside. Horrible indeed!!

The world today is getting messed up. Our civil liberties are slowly being taken by the laws that be. The fact that they feel that drug taking within a late licenced establishment that plays music is a major issue is wrong. As other peopl have posted here, what about the stabbings, shootings, fighting of the people who cannot handle drinking. They need to be taking dickhead testing at the door not drugs testing. How many times have you seen someone on class A's making violent attacks on others?? Never, or very rarely as they are too high on life to care! Also, the fact that they feel that if you refuse you are obviously guilty is a huge injustice, I know for a fact that when i go out i want to have fun not get to the door of a club and be greated by a police officer out to ruin others enjoyment of the night! Its like parking on a road and a traffic warden hovering around when you get out, you where going to pay for a ticket anyway, but you now feel pressured to do so! Freedom in this country is slowly going and to be honest the sooner i can leave it the better!

I agree that our civil liberties are being seemingly eroded, but however much we find this intimidation by police and security staff at night clubs irritating we mustn't lose sight of the fact that drug use and drug supply are criminal activities. And since the police, by their very nature, are committed to the prevention of crime then what on earth do you expect? You take the rough with the smooth. Once you have already made the moral decision to ignore the incredible suffering and harm caused by the manufacture and trafficking of drugs, being hassled by the man seems like a small price to pay for a night out.

I read something recently about police in London complaining (off record I presume) that more and more people were drinking as opposed to taking drugs. More trouble etc - but then we always knew that didn't we!!

Maybe Brighton police should take heed though, you stop people doing it, they'll either go somewhere else or find other ways to have fun - I think there are more important issues in this place to sort out, to be honest.

Re Tasha`s comment - wouldnt it be great if this test picked up traces of rohypnol and other 'date rape' drugs. To date, the Itemiser which is the computer used for this test does not screen for these drugs. The presence of police on the door does not guarantee you or your friends a night safe from incidences of this sort.
Re. Bibi's comment - perhaps this is where those politicians got 'cross contamination' from - or indeed my friend who alledgedly had cocaine all over his hands despite never having touched a line in his life!
I'd also like to add that whoever said there were more drugs than ever in the zap on Friday was not wrong - the night certainly didn't seem to suffer, if anything people seemed more determined to have a good time.

this is such an attack on civil liberties it doesn't bear thinking about. 1) say you work in a shop (you handle cash all day - you may have been 'tainted'; 2) haven't they got anything better to do??? Groups of lads on west street threatening and beating up people and generally being cunts is obviously less of a priority than someone going into a nightclub with class As for personal use ( great PR though - Argus headline - "Police Clamp Down On drugs Fiends" - drugs problem=junkies on western road being cunts and robbing people. *throws up hands in despair"
