Brighton’s Covert Records to close

It’s with great regret we bring you news that Brighton’s Covert records is set to close on the 16th of this month. Over the years Covert has gained a reputation not only as one of Brighton’s best stockists but that of the World Wide Web.

The close is supposedly due to the strain on record shops with the advent of digital media and introduction of new technologies. Although critics claim that vinyl / CD sales are up it clearly is not the case for small outlets such as Covert. It’s a real shame to see the demise of such a loved outlet.

We wish all the luck to the staff in the future. It’s their service and expertise that gave this place its well earned reputation.

A sad day for Brighton’s club scene.

I was shcoked to hear this as i thought covert did well, but i suppose with all thier genres, etc it was difficult to stay afloat. I personally havnt gone down the playing cds/mp3s out. But with things like this I cant see how I have little other choice. I will still support vinyl as long as is humanly possible. Infinate records is also closing/closed, which was also really shocking with all the DnB heads around today. I think it basically the end of an era for a while, dance music isnt declining, just not growing. Where are areas like indie/band music types are growing. Its the usal 10 year cycle. By the time it comes around again I will probably be a midlife DJ ready to sell up :)

Enough of this. Roll on Brighton summer i say!

It really is a shame. We did a survey recently and found that Covert was concidered as one of the best vinyl shops in Brighton. I guess DJs just cant be fucked to carry round vinyl anymore. You can see the benefits but its a shame for such institutions to go under.

Well i am personally gutted to hear about this i dont live anywhere near brighton but i have ordered vinyl on-line from covert ever since i discovered the site. It was my favourite as it not only gave u decent length samples and a good write up about every tune, it also gave u samples and info on all not yet released tracks
and allowed u to pre order them so u was always 1 step ahead.

    Im genuinely devastated about this!

    COVERT RIP CHEERS!

Gutted to here Covert are closed. My favourite on line record store and first port of call to browse and listen to what is new. Other places just don’t do it like Covert.
