Pollen is a new monthly deep house night in Brighton that promises to bring some soulful disco glitter to the still-cold nights.
The night runs on the first Friday of every month at the Jazz Place, a small intimate subterranean club on Ship Street, also home to the well-established Russ Dewbury night and Roots Garden. The night’s promoters, a house DJ collective, aim to provide a haven for underground house-lovers who are tired of bump ‘n grind soul nights and prefer to shy away from the tacky seafront clubs.
Pollen has only running for a few months, but the DJs have been playing at all-manners of parties since 2002. Pollen DJs include Derek C, Quality Tom, G-spot Love* and Jonny Loves House. They have performed alongside artists such as Deep Cartel, Smokescreen, and DIY.
The night is a spin-off from their successful festival circuit, and as such, they plan to host parties at Jazz Place during the colder months. The club night will be shut all throughout the summer and then resume again in September.
Although it’s early days, word on the street is that the night has attracted a nice little buzzy crowd of its own. If you like house, this is another good night to come and enjoy.
The next Pollen is on Friday 1st February at the Jazz Place with guest Ross Warm. Open February – May, closed June-August, open again September 2008.
