[ December 1, 2009 9:00 pm to December 31, 2009 11:59 pm. ] With Kachings reminisent to the beginning of Pink Floyd’s 1973 hit Money, it’s time for another new years even in Brighton. Our backings with Life, Supercharged and the Slackers Convention.
£32 to go to Digital?? Two words… blow me.

Tonight is not a night for staying in: music and culture on 3 December

[ December 3, 2009 7:30 pm to December 4, 2009 3:00 am. ] [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="480" caption="Major Lazer aka Diplo and Switch"][/caption]

Just before I was going to do a shameless plug for my gritty short story night at Red Roaster (which is on tonight!), it did occur to me that I happened to pick a pretty spectacular night for my event.

Not only were there two other literary [...]

Donky Pitch 1.2 // Jazz Place // 26/11/09

Eventually found the Jazz Place after initially going down the wrong street (does anyone else still have trouble navigating the south lanes?) all the while getting heavily rained on. It’d been a while since that last time I’d been down in the Jazz Place and it was good to be there again as I’ve some fond memories of that cosy basement.

Slackers’ Broken Robot Special tonight @ Volks!

[ November 28, 2009 11:00 pm to November 29, 2009 4:00 pm. ] Yes, it’s that time again for Brighton’s best kept secret (not), breaks night Slackers Convention. Tonight they’ve got three headliners, Hedflux, Neurodriver (Far Too Loud) and RMS, plus all the motley DJ crew.

Breakestra + Support // Concorde 2 // 22/11/09

A rainy Sunday night in November may not seem the ideal time for a storming bundle of funk and soul but no surprises really that the fine men from Playgroup did not disappoint. Arriving windswept and drenched is not the way I would have chosen to begin my evening, but nonetheless, the Concorde was bordering on full, and fiery support from The Impellers and Brighton based The Grand Majestic soon had the place getting their soggy feet into gear.

Subsource – Tales from the Doombox

Subsource, if you’ve never heard of them, have been an awesome player in the breakbeat scene and this year were nominated as best live act at Breakspoll International awards in London. They are like a cross between a world music act and a dance music cross-over band, but with some attitude in the same vein as bands like Asian Dub Foundation.

Donky Pitch 1.2 @ The Jazz Place

[ November 26, 2009 10:00 pm to November 27, 2009 2:00 am. ] The first Donky Pitch night was only held back in June this year but is already proving to be a heavyweight addition to the underground music scene in Brighton, playing cutting edge experimental hip-hop and electronica, without the added pretentiousness but with a lot of fun(k).

The Field // Audio // 11/10/09

The Field delivered a cracking early show at Brighton’s Audio on Wednesday. So much so that it left me feeling annoyed at having to go home in preparation for work the next day. It’s sad I know but the pain of midweek adventures outweighs the pleasures these days. This would have been a perfect Friday / Saturday slot filler… the hour long gig could have so easily have fitted into an entire night.

The Ableton and Novation tour hits Brighton

[ November 24, 2009; 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. ] Ableton and Novation are on tour throughout November with dates in UK cities from Brighton to Glasgow. Product specialists will be demonstrating the latest version of Live, demonstrating tips and tricks for beginners and advanced users and showcasing Launchpad, Novation’s brand new controller for Ableton Live.
