Greg Wilson @ The Jazz Place

I don’t think I’ve been to the Jazz Place for nearly 10 years but this may just get me back through the doors. In February they’ve booked a DJ set from a key player in the UK’s early Electrofunk scene – Greg Wilson. He was last booked to play in Brighton by the Broadcast Loft Party and is making a return to source out the funk once again.

…Electro-Funk’s legacy is huge. It announced the computer age and seduced a generation with its drum machines, synthesizers, sequencers, dub mixes, bonus beats and samples… Its influences lay not only with Kraftwerk, the Human League and Gary Numan, but with Miles Davis, Sly Stone, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Norman Whitfield and George Clinton?

- Greg Wilson

Over the years Greg has remixed artists such as Chaka Khan, Kool & the Gang, Yello, Human League, Chic, Talking Heads, Rockers Revenge, Brenda Taylor, Scritti Politti, Chicken Lips, Groove Armada and Grace Jones – the list goes on.

Expect some Revox reel-to-reel tape recorder action and enough healthy funk to make Stevie Wonder see again. So do it, whip out those old Chaka khan and George Clinton records. You know it makes sense.

Tickets: £5 in advance from Rounder Records 01273 325440 + Dance2 Records 01273 220023 from mid January.

I’m looking forward to seeing Greg play in Brighton again, the promoters have decided to move it upstairs as there’s more room for everyone to get their groove on… did you hear his essential mix? WOW!
