Allied Beats – Om Christmas Party Mixes

Welcome to a new year and thank goodness – it couldn’t have come any sooner.

2008 was a rollercoaster of fortunes, and while the media painted a house of horrors for 2009, forecasting a deep economic recession, there’s lots to be hopeful about despite the increasing number of closing pubs and clubs: we are lucky to live in a city packed with good music, art, culture and people. Right? Right.

So warm your hands by the internet, cosy up to the company of good friends and start counting your pennies for this year’s roster of festivals.

For all you hibernating folks, here’s a handful of mixes from the Allied Beats 2008 Christmas Party. The party collective, made up of four club nights (Flawless, Playgroup, Slackers Convention and The Electric Playboys Club), hosted the party at the newly-introduced Om, a tiny bar and club just off St James’ Street on Friday 19th December 2008.

Despite a certain incident involving the smoke machine upstairs, the mixes came off well – and so did the party! The night was a final get-together of partyheads after a year of massive parties. In May, Aquasky and Ragga Twins jammed the super-packed line up – which included Minuit, Subsource, Los Albertos, Transformer, and The Howling – at the Masquerade Ball at Komedia in May, and in September, JFB blew the roof off with his finale set at the all-day Frequency Festival party at the King and Queen pub.

Mixes recorded live on the night include Dan Sampaya and Oly Street (Five AM Records) back-to-back, Statikedge (Flawless), Granted (The Electric Playboys Club) and Pav (Slackers Convention). The recordings were featured as special four-part edition on the Uberblick Mix Show.
