NikNikNik and Casper C (Bloggers Delight)

I’ve not walked down Audio’s stairs for what seems like ages, and being there again, I can safely say that I’ve missed the place. It did, after all, used to feel like a second home. Stompa Phunk ruled and every weekend was a sure hotspot for quality music with a likeminded crowd. But like all good things, it had to come to an end.

The guys put 10 years of hard work into the night and the venue needed a change. Last year Stompa Phunk packed up, and two guys with much control over the venue left. About three weeks ago, another of Stompa Phunk’s guys left, leaving Audio in a completely different situation. Sometimes a change is exactly what is needed. The guys who ran it before did a great job but possibly ran out of steam – it was crying out for something different, a new touch perhaps. On entry one of the bouncers mentioned, “The venue has changed, all for the better.”

With Audio management dedicated to getting the place back on track, I was thrilled to hear they had booked ex-Fusion contributor, old friend and current king of the blogosphere, Casper C. Casper is part of the ever popular bloggers group, the Fluo Kids.

He also hosts his own night, Bloggers Delight, which he runs alongside Ben and Alex from Skull Juice. Blogger’s Delight can regularly be found at the Lock Tavern in Camden, Fabric and all over the UK. Blogger’s Delight has featured DJ sets from a range of artist, often before they went on to bigger things, including: Justice, DJ Gorky, Duke Dumont, Kissy Sell Out, Simian Mobile Disco, Brodinski, Yuksek, DatA, Herve (Dubsided), Trevor Loveys (Speaker Junk / Dubsided), Knifehandchop, Radioclit, Sinden, Van She Tech, SebastiAn, Kavinsky, Surkin – to name just a few.

What you have here is a night dedicated to finding the newest and most cutting-edge talent without being spoilt by pretensions, sunglasses and the general twaddle often associated with club nights today. Expect to find a healthy mix of genres, ranging from techno to a spot of garage and to wherever next. There are no limits here and the aim isn’t fixated on any one craze or passing trend. It’s a concept with longevity working within a broad spectrum – the concept is open.

We caught up with Casper C, who’ll be starting Blogger’s Delight at Audio from May.

What should the crowds expect from Blogger’s Delight at Audio?

The new monthly at Audio will showcase the rawer, tougher end of the Blogger’s Delight spectrum, as befits a late night club session, as opposed to our Sunday all-dayers in London. You can expect the residents and guests taking in everything from classic disco, house and balearica, through to the latest and greatest techno, with inflections of our electro influences. We’re always trying to push the envelope into the past as well as the future.

What made you choose Audio rather than any other venues Brighton has to offer?

I’ve been guesting all over Brighton in the past year, and nowhere has been as pleasurable to play as Audio. The dancefloor is small enough to feel intimate and remain open-minded, the equipment is top notch, and the Escape (Audio’s previous incarnation) is actually the first place I ever took ecstasy, so how could it not retain a special place in my heart?

Where do you see Blogger’s Delight going in the future?

The past and present of BD has already been an incredible journey, from playing back to back with Justice at our first ever event, to hosting reguar events at Fabric and Paris Social Club, and even presenting our own stage at the amazing Field Day Festival. This May commemorates our third anniversary, during which we’re attempting to showcase the full BD musical rainbow from indie pin-ups Friendly Fires (Jack is a DJ with fantastic taste, if you weren’t already aware!), balearic/psyche kings Beyond The Wizards Sleeve, italo-disco pioneer Alexander Robotnick, the legendary Joakim and JD Twitch from Optimo, and the young bucks of techno, Noob and Matt Walsh. I just hope we can keep our minds open for many years to come, and try to open a few others along the way!

Blogger’s Delight is set to take place the 1st Saturday of every month at Audio. So there’s another date to ink in to your diary – see you at the launch night on 02/05/09! It’s great to see something worthwhile, on a Saturday night, at Audio once again.

A definitive electro club, along with Bugged Out and Durrr
