The silly talented DMC/everything champs turntablist JFB, beatboxer Beardyman, and DJ extraordinare Ed Solo present another monthly night of sampling and scratching – Battlejam!
Line up:
Beardyman (2x UK Beatbox Champ)
JFB (2007 UK DMC Champ)
Ed Solo & guests: GEOMETRI, JAMES D’LEY
This monthly session the boys will be introducing New Instant video Sampling/Scratching!! Get ready. They will be filming faces and scratching them instantly.
Skint as fuck? WIN GUEST LIST!! Go to their Facebook wall and write something silly on the wall (apart from the words ’something silly’).
Doors at 11pm, cost unknown because the plonkers forgot to put entry on their publicity (but it’ll prob be £5-10). I can assure you it’s money well spent. Kicking out 4am.
Never been? Here’s what they have to say:
If you are new, unfamiliar or don’t quite understand what happens at Battlejam, don’t worry.. neither do we. All we know is that its amassing and its gonna get even more amassing cause we now have new technology which allows us to film, record and scratch videos live, Instantly!
The format is simple. Every month, a guest musician from the vast pool of Brighton talent joins them for a marathon 4 hour jam which involves live sampling of both guest musician and beatbox-vocal nutter Beardyman by the excessively sick scratch-technician JFB.
When their feeling particularly lairy they sample the crowd either en-mass or individually and make a tune out of it – live, by scratching it and manipulating it in before your very ears.
No-one knows what’s going to happen until it does at Battlejam, not even the performers themsleves. By the time 4 hours is up everyone present has reached a state of ecstatic transcendence and for audience members and performers alike, experiencing hallucinations and speaking in tongues is not uncommon. If it sounds bizarre thats cos no-ones done it before, so come see it n witness this groundbreaking night before everyone starts copying it.
It tends to go off like a hip-hop nail-bomb, and fends off the toffs stultifying them to great aplomb, from the proletariat, come n see it where you at, come down the vibe’ll hit you like a metal cricket bat. word.
Turn up and your drunken shoutings could become the hook for your new favourite tune. . . you got the balls?
Go on. Get stuck in. You know you want to.
