The Firegathering Festival // Capel

You might be thinking that Capel, near Horsham, isn’t exactly Brighton… and you’d be right. Hollywood Assassins @ The Prince Albert, 5th June

[ June 5, 2009; 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm. ] Supporting the intriguing Salter Cane, The Hollywood Assassins are here! And they’ll tease out your inner John Travolta (circa Pulp Fiction) and have you shimmying across the floor as if your shoes were made of butter. Lead singer Caroline is an Oirish girl with balls of Belfast steel and the voice to prove it. With a complex list of influences – Mazzy Star, Screaming Jay Hawkins and Eddie Cochrane – they’re gonna put the shock back in rock.

Great Escape Festival 2009

The 4th Great Escape Festival brought joy aplenty to a rainy mid-May in Brighton. After last year’s experience spending valuable gig time stood in queues, I decided this year to try beating the queues by seeing smaller acts. Research was required, especially seeing as this year seemed to be quite a mixed bag in terms of quality of acts for some reason (seriously). Here are the result.

It’s a shame about the promotion, there could have been an excellent atmosphere if there were more people. Overall some fantastic techno and great blurpy noises that sadly seemed to echo in a sparce room…

Le Band Extraordinaire // The Freebutt

Le Band Extraordinaire supporting the Icy Demons at the Freebutt on 11th May. Le Band Extraordinaire are currently on the hunt for management, I suggest anybody with the power to do so should snap them up. The rest of us can catch the next showing at The Fiddler’s Elbow on 4th June.
