August bank holiday: Spoiled for choice

Okay, I’ll admit it: when I first got an inkling about Beachdown going kapput on Tuesday night I wasn’t at all gutted. Call me a scrooge, but I didn’t fancy forking out to go rough it on the Downs just so I could spend two or three days watching my friends get munted in the same way they do every weekend.

It’s Sunday morning, 10.00 am and you have still not been to bed after a heavy night with Giles Peterson. You need a cuddle. You have lost your friends. Beachdown, it seems, has thought of everything….. break the world record for mass spooning!

Kliks @ Beachdown Festival

Kliks – Brighton’s original stripped back techno night will be hosting an event at this year’s Beachdown Festival. Famed for bringing some of the main players of minimal techno to Brighton, they return with another stunning lineup. Started in 2003 by Brighton based journalist Lee Smith, Mark Lerman and Tom Ridsdale their events soon gained a level of notoriousness. Kliks started before the “minimal” media hype and wasn’t led by jumping on to trends.

Alex Smoke is a Scottish DJ, based in Glasgow, making minimal techno music.

He has released two studio albums, Incommunicado (2005) and Paradolia (2006), on Soma Records.
