If you fancy a night of stories of that will make Hunter S possibly turn in his cannon-singed grave, come along next Thursday (7th May) to this evening Amythefilmmaker (Amy Riley) is organising and reading at called Grit Lit.

The event features eight writers, all with Brighton connections, who will be reading rough, tough (and easily digestible) tales from the South coast’s social and cultural fringe:

Tim Lay [The Sewerside Chronicles]
Amy Riley[Trash Menagerie/Brighton Fusion]
Tony Diamond[Pebble on the Beach/Queenspark]
Tara Gould[Short Fuse]
Chris Ellis, Tom Jayston, Martin Curtis and B [The Big Issue/Amazement/Creative Future]
Dave Swann[The Last Days of Johnny North/Tongues and Strings]

£2.50 won’t break the bank and you might even have fun at this literary night, cafe style, along the dirty but beloved street of St James in Kemptown. It’s 70 capacity at RR so be sure to get down for 7.45pm to guarantee your spot down the front.

The night is being put in conjunction with Queenspark Books and our very own, Brighton Fusion.

See you there & happy festivalling !

It seems like Brighton Fusion may have lost the point along the way.

We’ve been running since 2004 now and things sure have changed a lot in that time. We’ve seen clubs come and go, magazines go out of print, not so free parties along the beach, and cycles of different students hit our shores.

Over the past few years it has become increasingly more difficult for the smaller Brighton promoters to run their nights successfully. The heart has been there, but the interest and financial gain has been fading. Long standing club nights have folded under the pressure, not forgetting record shops which have been Brighton institutions. The kind of places which kept the city current and beating. Expressing concerns these days are often greeted with blank faceless expressions.

It has to be said that times have changed greatly, technology and fashion have made dance music more accessible to the masses. But in some ways it has lost its spirit along the way.

It’s these changes that have hit us hard. We’ve had to think long about this and we’re gonna stay and we are gonna focus on the things that matter.

We are stripping the site down and moving to a blog format. We will still work on having a closed team for reviews and articles. We feel this works better for all, and will result in a enhanced, more reactive product.

We could have stayed with the same format, we could have folded, but what good is that to anyone? Brighton Fusion was never meant to be a site which was static – looping the same listings and information.

With a blog, we aim to bring you something more organic, something more free and in the end more in line with Brighton. We will bring you new Brighton music, news and gossip.

So here’s two fingers at web design, meetings with self-proclaimed creative geniuses and striving to keep a current look. It’s basic, it’s simple, totally striped back and all about the content. Reviews from people in the game with experience and professional event photography from our own guys.

So… welcome to our new blog format.

Brighton Fusion has been running as an online magazine since 2004, starting our infancy with a flash-clunky site and music writers’ opposing penchants for electro, techno, breaks, free parties, experimental music and indie. Since the site’s formation, we’ve stuck to our guns, offering honest articles about Brighton events and nightlife. While other magazines / sites have business suits, corporate ownership and sushi, we have shared passion, cigarettes and meetings in pubs.

We now cover culture, technology and art, but we still keep music at the heart of everything we do – with the aim of telling you the inside scoop on going out in Brighton.
