Now I havn’t written a review for a while for brightonfusion.co.uk. One of the main reason’s being that I felt that I was saying the same things, making the same points, and starting to repeat myself. And the last thing I’d want to do is bore people. The other reason is that I was starting to become dissolusioned with the scene itself. The amount of time I’ve been listening to breaks I had to admit that recently I had been hearing a lot of tracks that just didn’t cut it for me. The things that made breaks good back in the day just don’t seem to happen anymore. The same principles are applied to tracks then and now, but even with the greater production qualities that the majority of tracks have these days for me anyway it leaves me feeling unsatisifed. I want to take something away from the music on a different level. So recently I have stepped back from the scene. Taken a little break from the breaks! Started listening to old Orbital records again, Underworld, The Chemical Brothers. The reason things all started…

But I couldn’t miss Freeland though Could I!

I went down the Concorde with some people from work who hadnt seen Freeland spin before. I thought that it might give me a fresh perspective on things. See things through their eyes so to speak. And to some extent it did. But to a greater extent I didn’t need their eyes. You see the thing is, the thing I’d forgotten was that Freeland is awesome. And seeing him play in the concorde is just about the perfect venue. So many forgotten nights spent wrecked on that dancefloor seeing the greatest DJ’ing talents the world has to offer. Fatboy at Boutique – Ladytron live – Plump DJ’s – Jazzy Jeff – Erol Alkan…

All of these are a few of the truely fantastic nights that I’ve been lucky enough to witness at the Concorde. Supercharged putting on Adam Freeland is another.

Firstly I have to say that the concorde is the perfect venue for Supercharged, and Supercharged the perfect night that the concorde needs to become credible again when it comes to weekend club nights. I recently I have gone off of Audio as a venue. I can’t be bothered with the constant stream of people pushing past you in order to get to the bar or the loo’s. It stops me from dancing and thats one thing I don’t like. But the concorde is in a different class. If you get the right night there you cannot loose.

I only came down to see Freeland…And I wasn’t at all dissapointed with what I found. The club had a fantastic atmosphere. Everyone was there for the music and that alone. The only reason people goto the concorde is for the music, no one’s gonna be arsed to walk all that way if they don’t want to. What this does is filter out all of the bibbles that just walk by Audio and pop in because they read in source magazine thats its the ‘cool’ place to be.

Brilliant, works for me!

Like I said earlier I only came down to see Freeland spin. His set was near perfect. Big builds and seemless mixing. His head was rocking in time with the beat like Ed from the Chemical Brothers. He owned not just the decks and the cdj’s but the whole stage.

He played all the classic tunes you’d expect to see in a Freeland set – FFS’s Towards The Sun (Evil Nine Mix) which stills sounds as fresh as ever. Bassbin Twins – The Dogs and their Remix of Evil Nine’s Crooked. Along side these classic pieces of ingenius breakbeat wizzardary he played his new remixes of Autolux and of Kevin Bebber and K-Swings ‘This Is The Sound.’

I can’t wait to hear his new Global Underground mix. I wanna see what fresh gem’s Adam’s managed to dig out for this one.

Seriously exciting music. I’m biased as I’m a massive Freeland fan, but its music that I can call breaks and get excited about again. I had a brilliant night, and all of the Freeland virgins that came with me did too. They enjoyed it so much they stayed on for Evil Nine and Freelands re-appearence at the end. Im only disapointed by the fact I had to shoot off early and missed the Evil’s.

Whats with all the hippie’s doing balloons of Gak??? Laughing gas??? £5 for three balloon’s??? I bet it looked weird from the stage, seeing a load of wrecked people all repeatedly breathing into and out of yellows balloons. Like the ever pulsating brain that rules from the heart of the ultraworld maybe! Or maybe not, but weird to see none the less!

So all in all I had a great night. Brilliant music that I felt inspired to hear, in a great venue, all put on by the best promoters and the best club night in Brighton. I understand Skool Of Thought and Ed Solo’s album is the next thing to drop on the Supercharged label. I can’t wait to hear it and I hope its an unparalled success.

See you all at Plump DJ’s on bank holiday Sunday. I’ll be the one at the front throwing shapes that you lot never new existed.
