Ah, the after parties. In Brighton, these can go on for years. So with a special night like NYE, expect the balloons and party poppers to come out when the sun comes up, and let the games begin.

Last year I saw way too many people who should have just gone home to bed. It was night of the living dead. If you see a couple of zombies near St Peter’s Church, don’t worry – they won’t bite.

So far, only three contenders in the race, but check back for updates as and when we get them (listed again according to price, starting with the least expensive).

Remember to take the 2nd January off and have a good time!

1 * NYE AFTER PARTY WITH SCHTUMM!, KLIKS & APE-X

Andrew from Stompa Phunk has obviously pulled the short straw. He’s hosting, as he puts it, “the mother of all after parties” down at a favorite watering hole. DJ lineup includes Holly Cooper (Stompa Phunk), the Schtumm! boys (Sam and Neil), Lee from Kliks and John and Jude from Ape-X.

Expect some uber-cool minimalist, dirty house and twisted techno tunes to keep you bouncing while your mates prop up the bar (half asleep). Plus apparently there’s talk of special guests who shall remain nameless. A good place to catch up with disparate friends who went to other parties. I’m a big fan of all the nights, can’t imagine any other messiness I’d want to be at.

HOW MUCH IS IT? £5 advance, £10 on the door.

HOW FAR AWAY IS IT? Riki Tiks. It’s a bar. North Laine, Bond Street, Brighton.

WILL I GET MY FRIENDS IN? It’s not the biggest of venues, and with Stompaphunk hosting a hot ticket, the place will be crammed with promoters, DJs, and people in the know. Book in advance.

HOW LATE CAN WE STAY? 4am-10am. Only problem, where then?

HOW DO I GET TICKETS? Rounder Records, Resident Records

WHAT THEY SAY: “Whoever’s standing gets a go on the decks…” It’s your lucky night.

2 * SUICIDE SALOON & BLOW AFTER PARTY

I keep getting invites to Suicide Saloon’s nights, and apart from the name scaring the living daylights out of me, I get the distinct whiff that I’m totally missing out. They’ve put on some good names, including the recent Carl Craig and last NYE’s Tiefschwarz. If you can stay ahead of the game, this might be a safe bet as well.

HOW MUCH IS IT?£10 advance

MUSIC POLICY: Ooh, wait and see.

HOW FAR AWAY IS IT? Ocean Rooms, Morley Street, Brighton

WILL I GET MY FRIENDS IN? Probably

HOW LATE CAN WE STAY? 4am – 12noon

HOW DO I GET TICKETS? Rounder Records, Resident Records, Dome box office (01273 709709), Ocean Rooms (01273 699069), Ticket Web

WHAT THEY SAY:”Brighton’s 2 biggest afterparties come together for New Year’s Eve 2008″

3 * DIGITAL BRIGHTON & JUNKBOXPRESENT THE NEW YEARS EVE AFTERPARTY

Newcomer Digital team up with party organisers Junkbox (De Puta Madre) to hosting this seafront afterparty. This parties doesn’t personally appeal, but the fact that they’ve got Simian Mobile Disco on will be a big pull for the punters now that that the boys are so massive these days they’re more or less in the mainstream. As it’s only a DJ set, I won’t be queuing – much better to see them live ! Support from De Puta Madre, whose music taste I’ll give a nod to.

HOW MUCH IS IT? £15 + booking fee

MUSIC POLICY: Tech house, minimalist, electro house, deep house

HOW FAR AWAY IS IT? Between the two piers. Digital Brighton, 189-192 Kings Road Arches, Brighton BN1 1NB

WILL I GET MY FRIENDS IN? Probably.

HOW LATE CAN WE STAY? 3am -9am

HOW DO I GET TICKETS? Online form(live show section) of Digital site , 24 hour phone line 08700 600 100, Rounder Records, Resident Records, Dome Box Office

WHAT THEY SAY: “DIGITAL BRIGHTON and JUNKBOX are proud to bring you the FILTHIEST of AFTER PARTIES to start 2008 as you mean to go on…” That filthy? You might need a shower after this one.

Brighton Fusion has been running as an online magazine since 2004, starting our infancy with a flash-clunky site and music writers’ opposing penchants for electro, techno, breaks, free parties, experimental music and indie. Since the site’s formation, we’ve stuck to our guns, offering honest articles about Brighton events and nightlife. While other magazines / sites have business suits, corporate ownership and sushi, we have shared passion, cigarettes and meetings in pubs.
